Summary

It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the tenth annual Hunger Games。 In the Capital, eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games。 The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to outcharm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute。

The odds are against him。 He's been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low。 Their fates are now completely intertwined -- every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin。 Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death。 Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute。。。 and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes。

It was a really captivating story。 I kept rooting for the main character, even though I always knew he would end up as an antagonist。 It was really sad at the end。 Very interesting though。

It was such a shame to finish this。 I expected an in-depth study into one of the most interesting characters’ from the trilogy’s origins and I didn’t get it。 We only got the true Snow wrapped up in a few final pages and no real character depth or development。There was just so much potential for Snow and the origins and study of the Hunger Games itself but this just wasn’t it。 I thought it his was going somewhere with the essays Snow is made to write and the theoretical debates mentioned but nope It was such a shame to finish this。 I expected an in-depth study into one of the most interesting characters’ from the trilogy’s origins and I didn’t get it。 We only got the true Snow wrapped up in a few final pages and no real character depth or development。There was just so much potential for Snow and the origins and study of the Hunger Games itself but this just wasn’t it。 I thought it his was going somewhere with the essays Snow is made to write and the theoretical debates mentioned but nope… these instances were few and far between and pasted onto a character that seems good one minute then suddenly a tyrant the next? Gutted。 But it made me want to reread and rewatch the films anyway… 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This was 3。5 for me。 Nothing will ever top the first book in the Hunger Games series- it was brilliant- but this was enjoyable。A lot of background trying to connect Snow to District 12, and paint a "reasonable" picture as to why he despised the idea of Katniss so much。 Sometimes it felt contrived, and the ending wrapped up much too quickly in my mind, but I thought it added some nice context to the world as a whole。 This was 3。5 for me。 Nothing will ever top the first book in the Hunger Games series- it was brilliant- but this was enjoyable。A lot of background trying to connect Snow to District 12, and paint a "reasonable" picture as to why he despised the idea of Katniss so much。 Sometimes it felt contrived, and the ending wrapped up much too quickly in my mind, but I thought it added some nice context to the world as a whole。 。。。more

Personally I loved this book! I am not much of a reader, but this book had me hooked! I loved The Hunger Games series, so I was so excited when this book came out。 I could not put the book down, I wanted to know what happened so bad!

I’m really torn on if I want to give this book a 3 or a 4, but I believe in rounding up。 The beginning was rough, I’m honestly not sure why I kept reading but I’m so glad I did! The second half of the book is what saves it and makes it worth reading。 Was it riveting the whole time? Absolutely not。 Is it a good, casual “why not” read? Yes。

。。。more

2。5 🌟 this is a huge step down from the original series。 I didn’t really care much for the storyline or characters but there were moments where I was itching to see what happened next or interested to see how the original trilogy was connected。

3。5/5- I was so disappointed! I was expecting the Hunger Games trilogy good。 Expectations were high considering what the others were like。 This wasn’t even on that level。 Slow paced, period。 Story? Eh。 Seen better in mediocre books。

Really liked it! Not sure why other people say it’s boring, but maybe I had a different experience because I bought an audiobook version。I loved how it tied into the hunger games book, and the point of the book was to dislike the main character。 You aren’t supposed to like Snow, that’s what I think a lot of people fail to realize and appreciate about the writing! Overall I really liked it and it kept me entertained。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I appreciated learning the origins of the Hunger Games and of how Snow came to be the villain。 Some of Snow’s origin story wasn’t fleshed out enough, and he almost seemed emotionally stunted in a way that isn’t common。 However, one thing that made sense was that he never stopped needing to be wealthy and held in esteem。 I think it takes a long time, sometimes years and sometimes generations, for that feeling of entitlement to dissipate。 Rich people are also taught in so many ways to put the secu I appreciated learning the origins of the Hunger Games and of how Snow came to be the villain。 Some of Snow’s origin story wasn’t fleshed out enough, and he almost seemed emotionally stunted in a way that isn’t common。 However, one thing that made sense was that he never stopped needing to be wealthy and held in esteem。 I think it takes a long time, sometimes years and sometimes generations, for that feeling of entitlement to dissipate。 Rich people are also taught in so many ways to put the security of their wealth and power first。 He was never gonna choose Lucy Gray, even if he was emotionally stunted, because he always thought he was better than her。Another note: An audiobook with songs that aren’t sung is really unsatisfying。 An audiobook where teenage girls are voiced by a man is off putting。 Add the 2 together and that is my reason for 2 stars。 。。。more

It was ok。

Very nice。 It was really interesting to see the world of the hunger games from coriolanus snow's perspective, because imo villains really help make a story and even better if you can empathise with them so it's not clear they're the villain any more。I liked the romance elements。。。 it felt forced and out-of-character for coriolanus, though - he wouldn't (view spoiler)[fall in love with lucy gray (hide spoiler)] I loved Lucy Gray Baird and the coveyi loved the way it links to the main hunger games Very nice。 It was really interesting to see the world of the hunger games from coriolanus snow's perspective, because imo villains really help make a story and even better if you can empathise with them so it's not clear they're the villain any more。I liked the romance elements。。。 it felt forced and out-of-character for coriolanus, though - he wouldn't (view spoiler)[fall in love with lucy gray (hide spoiler)] I loved Lucy Gray Baird and the coveyi loved the way it links to the main hunger games trilogy。Well - the first half was the best part of it。 The second half a bit。。。 ih。 Dull。 Meandering。 Not deliberate enough。but this is not enough to give it any less than 4 stars and it really deserves those 4 stars。 。。。more

So cleverly devised, Suzanne Collins did it again! I'm amazed how she took a baddie from her earlier books and introduced him to the reader as a young man and made me, not exactly like him, or sympathize with him, root for him or even understand him, but in a way kind of all of the above。 I liked how she showed us that people are not exactly black or white, even Snow is more Gray and Gray is colourful。 I loved how Collins plays with symbols and metaphors and how she references, both visibly and So cleverly devised, Suzanne Collins did it again! Collins explored some interesting ideas about the nature of humanity and the role of conflict and warfare, but it didn't come off well for me。 The characters were flat and the writing un-engaging。 The last chapter or so was nice and I'd have liked the whole book to follow suit。 Collins explored some interesting ideas about the nature of humanity and the role of conflict and warfare, but it didn't come off well for me。 The characters were flat and the writing un-engaging。 The last chapter or so was nice and I'd have liked the whole book to follow suit。 。。。more

Audio book。 This is Coriolanus Snow's back story。 It was interesting to visit the early days of the Hunger Games and to imagine the aftermath of the civil war that prompted the Capitol to institute them。 Coriolanus was mostly likeable, so his decisions and actions near the end were hard to fathom。There are the usual silly names to snicker at。 Audio book。 This is Coriolanus Snow's back story。 It was interesting to visit the early days of the Hunger Games and to imagine the aftermath of the civil war that prompted the Capitol to institute them。 Coriolanus was mostly likeable, so his decisions and actions near the end were hard to fathom。There are the usual silly names to snicker at。 。。。more

A really unique take on the world of Panem as we follow teen Snow from ambitious upstart to the roots of the man he would become。 The audiobook was particularly great given that it was voice by Santino Fontana from ‘Frozen’ and ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’。 His voice lends a devious arrogance to the story that assists with its over length。 It was a really enjoyable book for Hunger Games fans。
